Chance the Rapper Celebrates Mau Mau Struggle during Nairobi Visit

Chance the rapper recently visited Nairobi. He visited the Nairobi National Museum and shared photos, and referenced Kenyan anti-colonial history.
He said the visit to the museum helped introduce him to the Mau Mau movement, which was a 1950s armed uprising against the British colonial administration, and a key factor to Kenya gaining its independence.
This was his main message, that he wasn’t just showing off his cool travels, he wanted to show the anti-colonial message and the heavy price the Mau Mau fighters paid. The legacy of the Mau Mau fighters has been embraced in Kenya over the last two decades, and one of its leaders Dedan Kimathi has a statue in central Nairobi.
The museum was just one part of the rapper’s visit to Kenya, he toured many of its cultural and historical landmarks and shared tidbits of them on social media.
And that got attention.
