Wiper Patriotic Front and Ukombozi Alliance Party leader Dr Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka has ruled out joining President William Ruto’s government, saying he remains committed to working with opposition leaders ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Kalonzo spoke today, where he was accidentally by DAP-K leader Eugene Wamalwa, Makueni Senator Dan Maanzo, Machakos Senator Agnes Kavindu and Machakos Woman Representative Joyce Kamene, as they visited activist Collins Otieno, who is receiving treatment at LifeCare Hospital in Mlolongo.

Otieno was reportedly abducted during protests held in support of Ugandan opposition figure Dr Kizza Besigye, allegedly tortured and later dumped along Thika Road before being taken to hospital.

Speaking after the visit, Kalonzo and the other leaders condemned the reported abduction and torture as he called for an independent investigation to establish what happened and ensure those responsible are held to account.

The leaders also expressed concern over reports of abductions and intimidation of activists and young Kenyans exercising their constitutional rights.

On political realignments ahead of the 2027 elections, Kalonzo dismissed claims that he could join Ruto, saying, “I can never join the Ruto regime.”

He said the opposition had the numbers and capacity to form the next government, while reaffirming his commitment to working with other opposition leaders.

On the proposed Dangote refinery in Lamu, Kalonzo said the opposition was not opposed to foreign investment or development but raised concerns over the process surrounding major investments.

He said there was a need for accountability, transparency, meaningful public participation and adherence to due process, particularly in matters involving public land and strategic national interests.

Kalonzo said investments should benefit Kenyans through job creation and economic growth rather than benefiting a few individuals.

He added that major transactions involving Kenya’s resources must comply with the law and safeguard the public interest.

On the situation in Samburu, Kalonzo condemned the killing of livestock during a security operation, describing it as devastating to pastoralist communities whose livelihoods depend largely on livestock.

He said security operations should protect citizens and their property rather than cause further losses to communities.

The leaders wished Otieno a quick recovery and reiterated their commitment to defending constitutional freedoms and supporting victims of alleged abductions and torture.

They also called for accountability for individuals found responsible for violations of citizens’ rights.
