Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua has proposed tax incentives for investors who create employment opportunities, saying the move would encourage more investment and business expansion in Kenya.
Speaking during a meeting with Kenyan and American business executives in Dallas, Texas, as he continued his tour of the United States, Gachagua noted that investors who demonstrate the ability to create jobs should receive incentives and recognition from the government if he is elected President in the 2027 General Election.
“My government will come up with a policy of giving tax incentives to investors, especially those who will demonstrate capacity to create jobs,” Gachagua said.
He also added that investors creating more than 10 jobs should be recognised by the government.
Gachagua said his proposed administration would maintain closer engagement with the business community and develop measures to encourage investors to expand their enterprises and generate employment.
He also added that investors had an important role to play in addressing unemployment and supporting economic growth, and should therefore receive greater recognition and support from the government.
The former Deputy President is also using his US tour to engage Kenyans living in the diaspora, whom he said should have a greater role in the management of the country’s affairs.
Gachagua cited diaspora remittances as an important contribution to Kenya’s economy, saying Kenyans living abroad should not be treated as spectators in national affairs.
He said the economic contribution of Kenyans abroad gives them a stake in discussions on the country’s future.
Gachagua’s remarks come as he outlines his proposed economic and governance agenda ahead of the 2027 General Election.
