Kenya has recorded a major decline in new HIV infections, marking a significant achievement in the country’s fight against the virus. According to recent health reports, new HIV infections have dropped by approximately 86 percent compared to the figures recorded in 2013.

Health experts attribute the decline to increased public awareness, improved access to testing services, wider availability of antiretroviral treatment (ART), and the adoption of preventive measures such as pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP).

Officials from the Ministry of Health have welcomed the progress but emphasized the need for continued efforts to eliminate new infections completely. They noted that young people, women, and vulnerable populations remain key groups requiring targeted interventions.

Public health organizations have also called for sustained funding and community engagement to ensure that the gains made in HIV prevention and treatment are not reversed.

Despite the positive trends, health experts warn that stigma and discrimination continue to discourage some individuals from seeking testing and treatment services.

Kenya remains committed to achieving global HIV/AIDS targets and improving the health and well- being of all citizens.
